The target group of the BDC Discoveries 2013 is promising audio-visual professionals, who come from the Balkans or work on a Balkan-related topic and would like to collaborate with the region.

The workshop will cover both the creative and production side of documentary project development. The format is 7 teams producer+writer or director. As an exception, directors in search for producers can also be selected. The workshop is conducted in English.

Applicants must have a track record proven by their filmographies and a sample of previous work, with either the director or the producer on the team having at least three years of experience in the field of film production. They must apply with projects for films or social campaigns with a creative documentary approach, an international potential and a strong feasibility for cross-platform development and 360? distribution.

BDC Discoveries 2013 will be executed in three modules – Sofia/Bulgaria (April/May 2013), Prizren/Kossovo (August 2013), hosted by our partners DokuFest and Lepzig/Germany (October 2013), hosted by our partners DOK Leipzig. Throughout these three modules with international coaches and invited observers with decision-making capacity, the new generation of filmmakers will learn to work in a European framework and embrace best practices and tools, which have become a required standard worldwide. The participants are mentored extensively in order to develop strong projects with clear strategies on marketing and distribution. Pitching and presentation performances are being simulated in order to prepare the teams for the most important industry events. The goals BDC aims at are foremost oriented to the creation of a strong and supportive professional community, aspiring and motivated new generation of documentary filmmakers, as well as to stir the market in general, striving to induce more demand on documentaries and young professionals.

FOR OBSERVERS

As observers at the workshop, we will invite 3 representatives of civil society organizations, broadcasters and funds. This will allow to enrich the discussion and educate the participants in European film practices, and thus contribute to a new generation of Balkan ?funders? having new perspectives for collaboration with the documentary sector.

Participation fee (incl. accommodation and meals) is 1000 EUR pro team and 500 EUR pro observer. Travel expenses are not included in the fee. Limited number of scholarships could be allocated to participants and 1 observer, coming from non-EU countries. A motivation letter, explaining the need of a scholarship, will be required in case of selection.
