BDC Discoveries 2016

After six very successful editions, which proved our sustainable concept for tailor-made support for the documentary scene in the Balkans, it is our pleasure to execute BDC Discoveries 2016 – the project development workshop, aimed at uniting professionals with documentary projects with an international potential, and helping them to get exposed to potential financiers and partners on the European film market. BDC Discoveries remains the only one European training programme, which has its focus explicitly on the creative documentary collaborations with the Balkan region.

We are happy to have the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Commission and the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulgaria, for this year’s edition, which is yet another indication for the importance of BDC Discoveries. We are further supported by Goethe-Institute in Sofia, Programme Culture of the Sofia Municipality, Austrian Embassy in Sofia and Execute Agency Bulgarian National Film Center.

BDC Discoveries 2016 takes place in 3 modules:

Module Sofia (8-14 May 2016), is the most intensive session. The first weeklong module in Sofia has as a central topic a general script and project development strategies. Participants work together with tutors and observers on their own projects, attend lectures, join discussions and case studies.

Module Prizren (9-13 August 2016), hosted by our partner DokuFest, is focused on preparing the packaging and marketing of the projects on the international market. A final presentation in front of a jury, consisting of decision-makers, experts and funders, is being organized, in order to give the participants the pitching experience. Awards are given during that module, incl. a cash-prize for best pitch and nomination to participate in DOK Leipzig Co- production meetings!

Module Leipzig (30 October – 1 November 2016), hosted by our partner DOK Leipzig, is an important follow-up session, dedicated to the successful exposure of our project to the market. DOK Leipzig, and particularly its Industry section, will be an excellent possibility for the participants to network with colleagues from all over Europe, to benchmark on the international scene and to see their own projects in context of successful documentary professionals.
