Sofia Documental Workshop for documentaries related to human rights

07-14 September, first edition live in Sofia, Bulgaria

From 07th to 14th September the Balkan Documentary Center – Sofia and Konrad Adenauer Foundation with the support of Czech Cultural Center are organizing a film festival dedicated to world documentary cinema with a focus on human rights. For the first time this year, the festival will be organized in-person. In addition to screening cutting-edge documentary films, we are looking for projects in development who need support from our acclaimed mentors.

This special call is for filmmakers, who are working on documentary projects related to human rights and investigation. They can be in the stage of development or production.

The participants will have the chance to discuss the specifics of their projects both in a group and individually with the mentors. So far, the confirmed mentors are Melody Gilbert (USA) and producer Wolfgang Knöpfler (TERRA MATER Factual Studios). We will soon announce more tutors.

The idea is to share knowledge and tools for projects that will spread freedom of speech and promote human rights, both in their home countries and beyond.

The workshop will take place on from 6th until 10th September 2021 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Application process:

Please send to documental@documental.bg a short synopsis of your project, director’s note, trailer (if available) and your CV. We will select five participants, representing five projects.

Deadline for application: 19th August.

Results will be announced by 23rd August.

The workshop will be conducted in English.

Participation is free of charge. For the selected participants accommodation costs are covered. Travel expenses should be paid by participants.

We are looking forward to receiving your applications!
