Balkan Watchers 2024

Taxi Taxi is a podcast that tells longform, narrative nonfiction from the Republic of Georgia. We’ll use field reporting, sound design and character-based storytelling to produce audio stories in new, compelling ways. The show has already completed a season in 2016 and we’ve been awaiting an opportunity to relaunch it with more local collaborators. Our unique style combines aesthetic experimentation with high journalistic standards. While this “artistic documentary” approach is well explored in print and film, there are actually no examples of this style in the region. We plan to commission writers and filmmakers to adapt their stories for radio by following them as they follow up on a story or character they previously reported on and want to revisit. This format allows us to have a character to bring to life – the original author – as well as to summarize the initial story that brought us to them. Just like a mystery novel or a Hollywood epic, we’ll begin with something important and unresolved, and we’ll help our hero find it and reflect on their journey.
